CLINTON, MD – Michael J. Chiaramonte, MBA, CEO of Southern Maryland Hospital Center (SMHC) and founder and president of the Southern Maryland Health System, was recently honored by The Gazette of Politics and Business as one of “25 CEOs You Need to Know.” He was chosen from over 100 nominees and was featured in a special publication of the Gazette of Politics and Business. This year, the Gazette placed particular emphasis on the awardees’ effective leadership during the current economic downturn. Mr. Chiaramonte joined other honorees at an awards luncheon on May 13, 2010 at AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, MD.
The Gazette recognized Mr. Chiaramonte for his success in using his business acumen and training to fulfill the vision of his father Francis P. Chiaramonte, M.D., the hospital’s founder and president. Mr. Chiaramonte has guided the Southern Maryland Hospital and Health System’s expansion in recent years, extending its services in primary care, rehabilitation, home medical care, and long term care as well as establishing advanced specialty services such as coronary angioplasty and stroke care at the hospital. Mr. Chiaramonte has steadfastly continued SMHC’s commitment to providing a wide range of top-notch services, from the Heart and Vascular Center to a newly-expanded Maternal Child Health Division, outfitted with the latest technology and staffed by highly-trained physicians, nurses, and staff dedicated to providing excellent care to the Southern Maryland community.
“I am honored to be named among the region’s top CEOs,” Mr. Chiaramonte said. “It is a great joy to be able to fulfill SMHC’s mission of bringing excellence in the complete continuum of healthcare – from preventive medicine and wellness promotion through intervention and treatment to rehabilitation and long-term care – into the communities of Southern Maryland.”
