SOUTHERN MARYLAND HOSPITAL CENTER Celebrates 3rd Annual Cancer Survivors Day
Release: 6/15/2008

 Clinton, MD

— Southern Maryland Hospital Center (SMHC) proudly hosted the 3rd Annual National Cancer Survivors Day on June 14.  The event was held at the Colony South Hotel in Clinton, Maryland and featured guest speakers, health/wellness information, and raffles.  The event provided an opportunity for cancer survivors to come together and share their triumphs and tribulations with each other, well as offer their support. This year’s event was the most successful yet, and SMHC looks forward to planning for next year’s celebration.

The National Cancer Survivors Day is a celebration to honor all the people in our community who are living with a history on cancer and also to recognize the family, friends, and health care providers that are the support systems for the cancer survivors.

Coordinating the event for SMHC was Ashley Cockerham, Jennifer Williams, Justin Tyer, Rose Seigler, LPN, Tammy Borland, and Teresa Barnes, RN.  Also, attending was Zaida Morris of the American Cancer Society.

SMHC would like to extend their thanks and gratitude for their generous donations to the following sponsors: American Cancer Society, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Colony South Hotel, Davis Nails, Giant Food, Grizzly’s Pub, Lilly Oncology, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Network of Strength Breast Cancer, Noodles & Company, Oncology Nursing Society, Safeway, Sanofi Aventis, and Three Brothers Italian Restaurant.

Founded in 1977by Francis P. Chiaramonte, M.D., Southern Maryland Hospital Center is a 358-bed full service hospital serving the Southern Maryland areas.  Additionally, SMHC operates a state-of-the-art twenty-four bed subacute unit.  Throughout SMHC=s history, it has remained a community leader, a strong supporter of health care education, and a dedicated advocate for quality health care services.
