SOUTHERN MARYLAND HOSPITAL CENTER AWARDED 3-YEAR ACCREDITATION FROM JOINT COMMISSION

Clinton, MD — Southern Maryland Hospital Center (SMHC) proudly announces it has achieved full, 3-year accreditation, the highest awarded, from the Joint Commission as a result of its demonstrated compliance with the Joint Commission’s nationally recognized health care standards.  The Subacute Care Center at SMHC also received a 3-year accreditation. 

 

The Joint Commission was formed to improve the quality of the nation’s health care through voluntary accreditation.  Surveys, reviewing the quality of many factors within the hospital, are conducted on-site by the Joint Commission.  Accreditation by the Joint Commission ensures that SMHC meets national standards for quality care, organizational performance, and outcomes measurement.

Founded in 1977by Francis P. Chiaramonte, M.D., Southern Maryland Hospital Center is a 358-bed full service hospital serving the Southern Maryland areas.  Additionally, SMHC operates a state-of-the-art twenty-four bed subacute unit.  Throughout SMHC=s history, it has remained a community leader, a strong supporter of health care education, and a dedicated advocate for quality health care services.
